Abstract

This paper examines the nature of Muscovite relations with Poland-Lithuania in the sixteenth century, highlighting the issues that arose from aristocrats switching allegiances between both states. In particular, it investigates the cases of Mikhail Glinskii and Andrei Kurbskii, comparing the approaches taken by Vasilii III and Ivan IV when dealing with treasonous nobles.
