Russian Siloviki: 'New Nobility,' 'New Marginals' or Core of the Middle Class?

Abstract

Some researchers call siloviki and public officials, in general, in contemporary Russia “New Nobility.” But in real life, they are the core of the middle class – trendsetters and creators of the system of distinctions. Qualitative data shows the structure of their everyday life and their lifeworld (liebenswelt).
