Session Submission Type: Panel
The panel will be somewhat of hybrid in nature. It will partly focus on the forthcoming Bucknell University Press paperback edition (“Ecstasies and Elegies: Selected Poetry of Bohdan Ihor Antonych”) of Michael Naydan’s translations of Antonych’s poetry with Lidia Stefanowska’s scholarly introductory article. The participants will use the new edition as a starting point for their discussion, but also more deeply examine various aspects of Antonych’s poetics that require further illumination both in the original Ukrainian as well as in translation into Polish and English. Lidia Stefanowksa will discuss Antonych’s search for “praslovo” (the primeval world) in his poetics. Katarzyna Jakubowska-Krawczyk will examine recent iterations of the influence of Antonych on contemporary Ukrainian and Polish culture. And Alla Perminova will focus on linguistic aspects of Antonych’s poetry and issues of translation.
