Session Submission Type: Roundtable
As academics we have a responsibility not just to our profession or our students, but also to represent our field to the wider world. In the new media landscape of the 21st century—filled with masses of information as well as disinformation—this role we can play becomes even more imperative. The roundtable aims to foster discussion of writing and publishing for a broad public and includes a university press editor, a book series editor, two authors who have written for public-facing series, a scholar of sci-fi who also translates more popular literature, and a blog curator. The ensuing conversation will address who our audiences are, how to write for them successfully, and how to influence the transfer of knowledge not just in a university or scholarly setting but also out in the rest of the world.
