Session Submission Type: Roundtable
As Russia’s aggression against Ukraine tragically confirms, genocide continues to play a significant role in the history and memory of Central and Eastern Europe. Participants in this roundtable will examine how identity – individual and collective – has been shaped by the experience of mass killing, and how the discourse of genocide is leveraged by the politics of memory. The participants in this roundtable are contributors to the Handbook of Memory in Central Eastern Europe, to be published by Routledge in 2025, edited by Dovilė Budrytė and Violeta Davoliūtė. They will discuss their work in progress, and engage in a dialogue.
