Session Submission Type: Roundtable
This roundtable draws on the expertise of historians who teach topics on Soviet, Russian, and global healthcare/ medical/ disability history. Panel members will discuss integrating research into teaching syllabi; making syllabi diverse and inclusive; organising and updating course content; and different types of sources and assessments. What is it that we want our students to take away from a module on Soviet or global healthcare/ medical/ disability history? How does teaching the history of healthcare/ medicine/ disability enable us to engage with important discussions about gender, race, class, and ethnicity, and to focus on the voices of the marginalised or oppressed? In this roundtable we will discuss the importance of including the history of medicine, healthcare, and disability in our syllabi. The roundtable format will allow presenters to discuss this topic in a structured format.
