Session Submission Type: Panel
The nineteenth century was fraught with revolutions, conspiracies to preserve or overthrow existing regimes, and conspiracy theories. Certain conspiracies really existed, while others were marketable commodities that sold books and newspapers, and still others provided easy explanations for more complex problems. This panel explores visions of conspiracy involving Poles and Jews, groups that, in imperial Russia, fell under suspicion as threats to empire, social order, and Orthodox Christianity.
