This panel considers the experience of Soviet Jews in the twentieth century, with particular attention to their interaction with the West. The papers range from a consideration of the Yiddish writers living in emigration in the post-revolutionary period, to the role of the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee during the Second World War, and the experience of Soviet Jews in the third wave of emigration. All of the papers go to the conference theme of Liberation in examining Soviet Jews' efforts to maintain their culture, identity, and existence.
