Session Submission Type: Roundtable
This roundtable brings together in conversation an interdisciplinary group of scholars from cultural history, film and media studies, literature and visual arts interested in the history, artistic and cultural meanings of hunting in the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. This discussion will explore artistic and discursive ideas on the connection between hunting and being human, on humanity’s immersion in and separation from nature, on liberation and subjugation in nature, and how conceptions and practices of hunting inform the relationship between humans and non-human nature. This roundtable will seek to use these themes related to hunting to explore the potential of how they might expand and enrich environmental humanities in Russian and Soviet studies.
