Brief Description

The University of Michigan's Weiser Center for Europe and Eurasia, in a collaboration with The NGO The Reckoning Project, has launched an innovative digital archive designed to document human rights violations, war crimes, and atrocities occurring in Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022. This initiative aims to meticulously preserve the integrity of testimonies from witnesses and victims, potentially serving as critical evidence in future legal proceedings. The newly launched website features comprehensive interactive maps, including an Incident Map and a Troop Movement Map. These tools not only offer users a visual representation of the conflict's scale and dynamics but also allow for an in-depth exploration of specific regions and incidents. Beyond its function as an analytical and legal instrument, the digital archive also serves as a significant educational resource and commemorative platform. The Project's PI, Prof. Genevieve present the project. Prof. Yuri Zhukov will discuss key military aspects of the war; Yurii Kaparulin will discuss legal issues related to the prosecution of war crimes in Ukrainian and international courts. Prof. Jeff Veidlinger will chair/moderate the panel providing insights from Holocaust archive building, commemoration, and educational resources.
