The panel addresses the varieties of photomontage that evolved in the USSR and Central Europe in the 1920s and 1930s. In emphasizing “utilitarian” photomontage in print products outside of the avant-garde, the papers extend a newly contextualize the nature of this photography-based technique. Presentations address photomontage in books, magazines, posters and other “minor” media such as post cards, stressing their interconnected nature.
