Abstract

The Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee (JAC) Affair resulted in a wave of repression against Jewish intellectuals in Kyiv. The last Jewish scholarly institution in the Soviet Union, the Department of Jewish Language, Literature and Folklore (brief title the Department of Jewish Culture) of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences was liquidated in connection with the JAC Affair. Almost all members of the Department were arrested soon thereafter; they were accused of Jewish bourgeois nationalism and espionage for America.
