This paper discusses how the Polish ISCM section navigated the politics of the postwar period, a time during which the Polish section was first shut down and later relaunched. Attending to the four times Poland hosted the festival (1939, 1968, 1992, 2014), the paper shows how the institution was critical for composers to maintain contact with the contemporary music scene outside the country’s borders, especially during the Cold War.
