Chopin Diplomacy in Mid-Century Poland

Sun, November 23, 8:00 to 9:45am EST (8:00 to 9:45am EST), -

Abstract

The third paper considers how Polish institutions and composers turned to Chopin as a symbol of international contact and exchange, rewriting his global fame and life, split between Poland and France, to support mid-century visions of international exchange and diplomacy. It thereby shows how Polish internationalism sought to both reactivate and rewrite older forms of cultural exchange.
