The paper analyzes the 1958 commemoration of the Battle of Sutjeska in a global context. Nasser’s presence at the commemoration provided the Yugoslav communist regime with an opportunity to project their global image as role-model of freedom-fighting and independence seeking. By focusing on memory politics, Mitricevic’s paper reveals methods used by the Yugoslav regime to establish its credibility in the Global South.
