This paper analyzes Włodzimierz Brus's scholarly work on the USSR through the
lens of his autobiographical wartime experiences. Brus documented his experiences as a
refugee in the USSR during World War II in a journal, revealing contradictory assessments of
Soviet reality. These experiences profoundly influenced his later academic writings on the
USSR.
