After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Lithuania risked returning to authoritarianism and faced threats similar to what happened with Belarus and Russia. However, due to aggressive steps taken by G. Soros and the Lithuanian diaspora in the USA, as well as the specific identity of Lithuanian communists, Lithuania managed to establish a liberal democratic system. This paper discusses the influence of 1990s on Lithuania's memory and current identity.
