Soviet and Russian war films have been recognized by scholars as a highly influential genre, instrumental in shaping and sustaining the myths that legitimized the Soviet Union after 1945. During times of political crisis, war films also created space for questioning, highlighting the human cost of war and critically examining its underlying politics. This presentation explores the evolving language of Russian war films to trace the cultural transformations that have taken place from the 1990s and early 2000s to the present.
