The paper deals with the unfilmable scenarios – Beogradski trio (2018), Doktor D. (2022) and Zavod (2024) – by Goran Marković, a well-known film director and writer, member of the Prague Film School, and a passionate critic of the current Serbian regime. Since he unable to get the financial support for his recent film projects due to his political activism, Marković made the unusual turn of reverting the screenplays into books – thus reversing the traditional process of adaptation and continuing his resistance towards the oppressive social system in Serbia. The paper explores the thematic (nostalgia and trauma of the past imbued with irony and self-consciousness) and genre (melodrama) constituents of those three unfilmable scenarios/successful books written by Goran Marković.
