The Second World War as a Reference Point for the 'Memory Wars': Jewish Resistance in WWII and the Memory Wars in Lithuania

Sun, November 23, 10:00 to 11:45am EST (10:00 to 11:45am EST), -

Abstract

Participants of historical debates, namely highly ideological interest groups, including state institutions, fail to maintain a mutually tolerant attitude towards the legacies, mythologies and desires of interest groups that support the cause of the Lithuanian anti-Soviet resistance, the pro-Soviet Lithuanian partisan groups, the Polish Home Army, or the Jewish partisans in Soviet partisan formations. The presentation will explore the main elements of conflicts and interpretations of the narratives and the prospects for conflict resolution.
