This paper explores the political cooperation of “Ukrainophile” and “Russophile” Ruthenian politicians after the election-day massacre that took place in the east Galician village of Horuts’ko in May 1907. Juxtaposing the factions’ acrimonious confrontations during elections with their pragmatic post-election conduct in the Austrian and Galician parliaments, the paper sheds light on the social and political consequences of electoral corruption and violence in late imperial Austria during the process of democratization.
