Soviet Experts and the Transformation of Socialism at East China Normal University

Abstract

This paper examines the role of Soviet educational experts in building and transformation of the first socialist university of the PRC: East China Normal University (ECNU). It focuses on the introduction and establishing of Soviet model at ECNU since the early 1950s as well as its teacher education programs and cultivation of new generation of red young teachers.
