This paper explores the role of Isadora Duncan, an American dancer, in early Soviet society and culture. What is revealed in this paper is how Duncan was politicized by both the Soviet regime and intelligentsia. This paper showcases how art and “the other” are manipulated and exploitable to fit the Soviet regime and critics’ political agendas.
