This paper focuses on the way lament is represented in Dostoevsky’s “Crime and Punishment.” While Katerina Ivanovna and Sonya experience similar losses, their expressions of grief are different. Katerina Ivanovna represents a traditional way of lamenting, while Sonya’s lament is in accordance with church practices of lamenting.
