Along with Mexico, Yugoslavia was the only country that never recognized Franco's Spain and maintained diplomatic ties with the Spanish Republican Government, as well as relations with Spanish parties and groups in exile, reflected in regular meetings and visits, offering refuge to exiles, financial aid, medical assistance, summer vacations on the Adriatic coast, etc. Drawing on archival documents, written memoirs, and audiovisual material, this paper will present the memories of Spanish exiles of their stay in Yugoslavia, as well as their children’s. It will focus on the memory of the Tagüeña - Parga couple, both prominent Spanish exiles and authors of memoirs of their exile, and their daughter’s memory of the same experience.
