This study analyzes the emergence of decolonial movements among non-Slavic nations within Russia, particularly within diaspora communities. Grounded in historical grievances and cultural suppression, these movements advocate for autonomy or independence. The research situates their demands within broader post-imperial frameworks, intensified by Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine and ongoing centralization efforts. It offers a new analytical direction outside of traditional Russia studies that sees the political geography of the Russian Federation as a space of contestation. The nations build new alliances between non-Russians of Russia, as well as with former Russian colonial subjects in Central Asia, the Caucasus and Europe.
