In this presentation, I will present my Ukrainian translation of Marjorie Piercy's novel Woman on the Edge of Time, which critically explores systems of oppression, alternative forms of intimacy, and the pursuit of equality. Although the work is not directly related to a Slavic context, its themes strongly resonate with the Soviet experience of erasure of personal identity, repression, and state control. The work has had a particularly significant impact on feminist movements as it reveals ideas of gender equality, social justice, and liberation from patriarchal structures. The presentation will focus on how this novel has influenced feminist theories and practices, as well as the community of women struggling for their rights in the face of historical and political transformations. We will examine how translation serves not only as a tool to increase the accessibility of such works, but also as an important factor in the dissemination of feminist thought and critiques of social order.
