Grzebalska examines the Polish defense sector, social policy and labor market policy, showing how illiberals combine anti-gender elements with (some) continuity of equality policy. These findings lead her to critique arguments about a ‘backlash’ and ‘anti-gender’ trends and suggest that illiberal gender politics has to be studied as dynamic, nuanced, and pragmatic. They also raise the need to examine how illiberalism is embedded in national cultures.
