The "Revival Process" or the "Process of Rebirth" was a policy pursued by the Bulgarian communist authorities aimed at the forced assimilation of the Muslim community living in Bulgaria. Ultimately, many of them were forced to leave the country in 1989. The paper explores how this event is commemorated in present-day Bulgaria. The study examines how this (post)memory is shaped both from the top-down and also - how the (post)memory of that historical event is shaped in public debate conducted by politicians and intellectuals.
