A Patron & A New Order: The Potential Outcome of Russia’s Support for De Facto States

Abstract

As a multipolar world is ushered in, the Russian Federation has increased its patronage to the de facto republics under its influence. Russian military-economic aid to Transnistria, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and the Donetsk People’s Republic, may suggest a larger Russian plan for these and similar entities as Russia progresses towards the consolidation of its power and control.
