Session Submission Type: Book Discussion Roundtable
The panelists will join the author of A History of Beekeeping and the Honeybee in Contested Eastern European Landscapes to explore the material-cultural dynamics of the honeybee and beekeeping from prehistory to the present. Dr. Clay's highly original book combines environmental, social, economic, and cultural history and analyzes the meaning and experience of beekeeping in the longue duree as well as its public history in museums today. The previously overlooked humble honeybee, she contends, is fundamental to the history and culture of this region.
