Russia's Great War and Revolution: What We Have Learned and What Still Needs Exploring

Fri, November 21, 10:00 to 11:45am EST (10:00 to 11:45am EST), -

Session Submission Type: Roundtable

Brief Description

"Russia's Great War & Revolution, 1914-1921" is an international research project that features twenty-two books and over three hundred research articles composed primarily by American, British, and Russian scholars with some contributions from additional scholars from around the world. We first started publishing in 2014 and finished books twenty-one and twenty-two in November 2024. The overall aim of the project was to provide a forum where experts on this period of history could share what they had learned from what at the time were the relatively open Russian archives and libraries. Members of the project's editorial board now wish to form a roundtable to share two topics with the membership of our professional organization: 1) This print run has transformed the history of the vital moment in the Russian experience. As such we wish to highlight some of the new information and conclusions reached as a result of this body of research that touch on a broad number of topics and themes ranging from (but not at all limited to) military history, the history of the revolution throughout the empire to the personal thoughts and writing of Russian citizens. 2) We then want to devote some conversation to what we thing still needs to be research on this vital topic in Russian history.
