Fri, November 21, 10:00 to 11:45am EST (10:00 to 11:45am EST), -

Session Submission Type: Panel

Brief Description

This panel examines how contemporary Russophone theater challenges state narratives and reclaims marginalized histories through trauma and memory. Natalia Plagmann analyzes Anastasia Patlay’s work, highlighting female bodies as agents of resistance to dominant collective memory in Russia. Julia Listengarten explores Russophone theater's revival of silenced histories, focusing on displaced Siberian Tatars and Armenians. Yana Meerzon studies plays about Soviet-induced famines in Ukraine and Kazakhstan, to demonstrate how historical memory can serve as a tool for decolonization. Together, these presentations examine how theater re-engages with trauma and reclaims lost narratives.
