Session Submission Type: Book Discussion Roundtable
Focusing on the processes, gaps, agents, and contradictions of post-memory of communism in Romania, the participants on the roundtable will examine a range topics across a variety of disciplines, including museums and musealization (Caterina Preda), law and memory, transitional justice and retrospective justice (Monica Ciobanu), and the marginalized and forgotten voices of the Roma population (Delia Popescu). The three participants will examine the construction of post-memory in post-communist Romania and highlight ongoing tensions and continuities between trauma, restorative nostalgia and reflective nostalgia. Moving aways from a mainstream transitional justice approach, the presentations will provide a more pluralistic and diverse analysis to the past.
