Session Submission Type: Book Discussion Roundtable
The novel "Quiet Flows the Una", by Bosnian author Faruk Šehić has been described by Kapka Kassabova as a “hypnotic meditation on grief, shame and conflict”, which is achieved through the interweaving of the positive memories evoked by the Una River and the trauma of war memories. Its pages are not only a tribute to nature’s beauty, but a commitment to healing through literature in a generous act of balancing good and evil, happiness and destruction, to look into the future. Participants will discuss the novel taking into account the backdrop of the history of the former Yugoslavia and the contribution of the novel to cultural memory, and analyze, from the narrative perspective, the different representations of memory and how they affect our understanding of both past and present.
