Marek Torčík’s novel, Memory Burn (Magnesia Litera Award; Jiří Orten Prize for writers under the age of 30) a coming-of-age story of a queer boy from a Czech industrial town, partly provides a social commentary about how life in a small town shapes people and affects misogyny, homophobia and racism, and also talks about such universal issues as how our memory influences us as individuals.
