This roundtable explores the role of historical memory in the contemporary polemical exchanges among the Orthodox Churches of Ukraine and Russia. Speakers will explore the engagement of texts, spaces, iconography, and the liturgical calendar by Russian and Ukrainian synods, bishops, and theologians in the public discourse on the historical legacy of Orthodoxy. Presentations will focus on the Moscow Patriarchate, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, with secondary reference to historical memory in the Patriarchate of Constantinople and Ukrainian and Russian church communities in the diaspora.
