The Colonial Foundations and Contemporary Privatization of the Public University

Abstract

This paper reframes the study of privatization in higher education today through a decolonial reading of land-grant institutions. Drawing on and extending revisionist histories and the theory of academic capitalism, I argue that our vision of the public good both depends on and is threatened by perpetual capitalist expansion.
