Study Abroad as an Unintended Consequence of State Merit Aid Programs

Thu, November 9, 11:00am to 12:15pm, Marriott Marquis Houston, Memorial

Abstract

This study explores the impact of statewide merit-aid programs on study abroad. Since these programs provide students with additional funding, their implementation was expected to be associated with increases in study abroad participation. To the contrary, results from difference-in-differences analyses suggest a negative relationship between merit aid and study abroad.
