Using the Past to Inform the Present: The History of Students with Disabilities in Higher Education, 1944-1950

Abstract

Colleges and universities are struggling to adequately support students with disabilities (SWDs) on campus. This paper will revisit the institutional response to the first SWDs in higher education: WWII veterans with disabilities. Using the past to inform the present, this paper will afford valuable insight to educators working with SWDs.
