Why are Some Universities More Committed to interdisciplinary Research than Others?

Abstract

Because of its assumed capacity to spark innovation, interdisciplinary research (IDR) is widely promoted. We analyze variation in universities’ commitment to IDR, and how this is influenced by both internal dynamics and external environments. Preliminary results show that different factors are related to different levels and types of IDR commitment.
