Are Power Asymmetries Perpetuated through Higher Education Media focused on Intercollegiate Athletics?

Abstract

Higher education media provide valuable information for members of the higher education community. However, power asymmetries become apparent when performing content analyses on student athletes and intercollegiate athletics. Hegemony theory and Gaventa’s theory of power provide the framework to uncover themes and power issues which impact student athletes and institutions.
