Abstract

Research on stratification overwhelmingly focuses on student-level factors to explain disparities in enrollment; less attention has been devoted to understanding how relationships between institutions structure college opportunities. This paper applies concepts from social network theory to explain why high school feeder networks are a key mechanism influencing students’ postsecondary trajectories.
