“Romanticizing Resilience”: Exploring Black Students’ Experiences of Resistance and Persistence in Higher Education

Abstract

Resiliency theory provides an anti-deficit approach to understanding how Black collegiate students adjust to and overcome obstacles, which is historical for Black community survival. Using educational betrayal and community cultural wealth as theoretical frameworks, this scholarly paper explores how romanticizing educational resilience further marginalizes Black students’ experiences in higher education.
