Students Leaders of Color Negotiating their Racial Identity: A Case Study on a Historically White Student Organization

Abstract

Thirteen student leaders of color were interviewed regarding their experience of navigating a historically white student organization. The results suggest that students of color undertake behavioral strategies to operate in this type of organization. Practical applications for higher education staff and faculty are recommended to create inclusive organizations.
