This paper explored how undergraduate students understood the social relevance of their engineering course content knowledge and drew larger social and ethical implications from that knowledge. Our findings revealed a crucial need for a renewed perspective on engineering ethics that proactively examines the ethical and social consequences of engineers’ work.
