“Technically-minded People” in Elitism’s Silo: Invisibility of the Social and Ethical Dimension of Engineering among Undergraduate Engineering Students

Abstract

This paper explored how undergraduate students understood the social relevance of their engineering course content knowledge and drew larger social and ethical implications from that knowledge. Our findings revealed a crucial need for a renewed perspective on engineering ethics that proactively examines the ethical and social consequences of engineers’ work.
