Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to review widely cited theoretical explanations of transitions, offer a critique of their utility, and to make an explicit argument for the use of “Legitimate Peripheral Participation” as a theory that elucidates pathways for understanding, studying, and improving student transition programs in the US.
