HBCUs Are a Different World: Black Women in an Undergraduate Engineering Intervention

Sat, November 17, 3:00 to 4:15pm, Tampa Marriott Waterside, Floor: Second, Meeting Room 6

Abstract

Our qualitative interview study examines the experiences of black women enrolled in undergraduate summer research initiatives at a public Historically Black University. Respondents report on social support experienced in this institutional environment. Findings suggest the value of HBCUs as feeders for broadening participation in engineering, especially among women.
