Toward a Theory of Higher Education as a Field of Study

Abstract

From its inception, the field of study of higher education has lacked a central governing theory and instead has borrowed heavily from other disciplines and fields. This theoretical proposal examines the creation of a theory of higher education to add legitimacy and focus to the work of higher education scholars.
