A Marxian Perspective on the American Net Neutrality Debate

Abstract

By utilizing a Marxian perspective to examine the modern phenomenon of internet regulation and deregulation, this manuscript explores the net neutrality debate beyond the confines of traditional theoretical approaches. It is posited that the deregulation of the internet buttresses the continued preservation of Anglo-American laissez-faire capitalism, which then shapes individuals’ perceptions and actions beyond the boundaries of their online experiences. The application of Marxian theoretical frameworks challenges traditional legal and economic perspectives furthering neutrality discourse.
